Sherwood “Woody” Boyd

Sherwood Laverne Boyd, the son of Sherwood O. and Mary (Parr) Boyd was born on February 8, 1953, in St. Helens, Merseyside, Lancashire, England. In May of 1953, the family moved to Rutland, where he was raised and educated until the family moved to Eagle Grove in 1964 and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1971. Sherwood served in the United States Navy as an AT Second Class from April 1975 to April 1979. He also attended ICCC in the early 1980’s.

Sherwood married Jackie Willard, and they had two sons, Braden and Jonathan. They later divorced. He married Janean Biondahl and they later divorced.

Sherwood was an electrician, working for Lehigh Hanson Aggregate in Mason City for 30 years. He returned to Eagle Grove in 2015.

Sherwood was passionate about hunting especially pheasant on the back roads of Iowa. He also enjoyed Politics (a big Donald Trump supporter and FOX News was always on) and collecting the latest gadgets.

Sherwood passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Clarion Wellness and Rehab Center, at the age of 71 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Sherwood and step father, Tommy Steffen.

Sherwood is survived by his sons, Brady Boyd (Jackie) of Oconomowoc, WI and Jonathan of Rochester, MN; grandchildren Isabella, Alyana, Alexandra, Finnegan, and McKelvy Boyd; Maysen, Delilah, and Memphis Boyd mother, Mary Boyd Steffen of Eagle Grove; brothers, Mike Boyd (Jaci) of Eagle Grove, Wayne Boyd (Barb) of Goldfield and Frank Boyd of Mason City and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 19, 2024, 11 a.m. First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial with military honors were in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
