Carolyn Cochran
Eagle Grove – Carolyn May (VerSteegh) Cochran, the daughter of Tracy and Helen (Wood) VerSteegh, was born on May 27, 1944, in Knoxville, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth – attending Country School, Lovilla schools and graduating from Moravia High School “Class of 1962”.
On July 15, 1962, Carolyn was united in marriage with Glen Cochran at the Methodist Church in Moravia. After uniting in marriage Glen & Carolyn moved to Wellman and Calamus, Iowa where Glen taught, before settling in Eagle Grove in 1967, where they raised three sons, Darryl, Dale and Doug. Carolyn started the first “Day Care” in Eagle Grove in 1976, housed at Sacred Heart.
Carolyn went on to college, once the boys started school, receiving her AA Degree from ICCC in Eagle Grove, her BA in Elementary Education from Buena Vista and her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Iowa State University. She had an extensive career with ICCC - as head of Economic Development, Director of the Eagle Grove Campus and adjunct professor at the Webster City Campus.
Carolyn was an active member of the First Baptist Church – serving in many executive capacities, teaching Sunday school, serving as moderator and leading Bible study.
Carolyn was an avid reader, enjoyed painting, quilting, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events and loved anything that involved her family. She and Glen were privileged to travel to 48 states – where Carolyn was able continue her love of shopping and antiquing!!
Carolyn passed away on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, at the Israel Family Hospice Home in Ames, at the age of 78 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tracy and Helen and daughter-in-law, Sheila Cochran.
Survivors include her husband, Glen of Eagle Grove; sons, Darryl Cochran of Camanche, Dale Cochran (Michelle) of Urbandale and Doug Cochran (Lori McClure) of Johnston; seven grandchildren: Mickey Cochran, Brooke Carrington (Kevin), Logan Cochran, Roni Cochran, Maddy Cochran, Sam Cochran and Porter McClure and sister, Beverly VerSteegh of Ottumwa.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Visitation is Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date at Little Flock Cemetery in Plano IA.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
