Donald Brayton

Eagle Grove — Donald Dean Brayton, the son of Glen and Verda (Shoopman) Brayton, was born on August 16, 1928, in Bancroft, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Prentice, Wisconsin. Don served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1948 until 1951.

On December 14, 1950, Donald was united in marriage to Beverly Jones at Wahoo, NE.

The couple lived in Thor for 33 years before moving to Eagle Grove in 1995.

They were members of Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor and transferred their membership to Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

Don passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 93 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly on December 19, 2016; siblings: William, Naomi Soetebeer, JoAnn Ehrhardt, Patty Larson, Bonnie Halligan, Doris Koppe and Judy Law.

Don is survived by his daughter, Michele McGonegle (Jack) of Eagle Grove; sons, Randy Brayton (Barbara Evans) of Estes Park, CO and Chad Brayton (Tina) of Winterset; nine grandchildren: Mitch McGonegle (Laura), Kurt McGonegle (Heidi), Holly Callahan (Jeff), Sally Jacobs (Ryan), Tom Brayton (Hannah), Chelsea Pierce (Tyler), Haylee Starmer (Hunter), Brandon Brayton and Laci Brayton; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Swanson; sister-in-law, Patty Lunn (Jim) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
