Melvin Schnell
EAGLE GROVE — Melvin (Melvie) Earl Schnell, the son of Truman and Evelyn (Purkapile) Schnell, was born on March 17, 1930, in Webster City, Iowa.
On January 4, 1974, Melvin was united in marriage to Carla Willard in Elk Point, SD.
Melvin worked for many years as a Paint Foreman at Electrolux (Frigidaire) in Webster City before retiring in 1990. He would then drive for the CNW Railroad, and spent many years driving the Eagle Grove taxi.
In his early years you could find Mel taking fishing trips to Canada (always caught the big one), on the road to many bowling events around the country (he was an exceptional bowler), on the golf course, and then after retirement you could find him and Carla at casinos all over Iowa, he really enjoyed the slot machines, but most of all he loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren. he was definitely a proud grandpa, and more recently a great grandpa!
Melvin passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 92 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carla in 2019; brothers, Mert Schnell (Del), Bernie Schnell (Vinnie), Larry Schnell, Frank Schnell, Bob Schnell; sister, June Larson; infant sister, Verla Jean Schnell; brothers-in-law, Art Dayton, Larry Larson, Terry Willard, Brady Willard, Louis (Bud) Willard, Gary Willard, Mark Willard, Wade Willard, Ed Hower; sister -in-law, Gwen Alcorn and nephews, Steven Willard & Quincy Babcock.
Melvin is survived by his son, Randy Schnell (Brenda) of Waukee; daughter, Shani Becker of Eagan, MN; grandchildren, Brenden Schnell, Kalyn Becker, Elin Schnell and Elle Schnell; great grandchild, Rylnn; sisters: Ruth Norris of Webster City and Marcia Dayton of Webster City, sisters-in-law: Kathy Skasick (Jack) of Beebe, AR, Naomi Hower of Glen Lyon, PA, Candy Baker (Mike) of Eagle Grove, Jackie Thompson (Mark) of Glenville, MN. and Michelle Peterson (Chris Peterson) of Eagle Grove, Kathy Willard of Eagle Grove, Sandy Willard of Eagle Grove, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
