Lewis Andrew Larsen
Lewis Andrew Larsen was born May 15, 1928, on a farm between Kanawha and Corwith to Will and Elsie (Hansen) Larsen. After the death of his father when he was 12 years old, his mother and siblings moved to Eagle Grove.
Before he graduated from high school, Lewie won the state championship in wrestling in 1946, when he beat Bill Smith. Lewie attended Iowa State for wrestling for one year before returning to Eagle Grove where he married Ferne Grill.
He and his brother Bob owned and operated Larsen Plumbing and Heating for many years ~ the location of the present Senior Center.
After they retired, Lewie and Ferne lived for 6 months every year in Lake Tahoe, NV and later spent 6 months of every year in Mesa, AZ before returning for good to Eagle Grove in 2011.
Lewie enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was very proud of the dorado and marlin he caught in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. He was also a master woodworking craftsman whose work is best illustrated in his home where he built all of the kitchen cabinets tongue-in-groove, as well as a brick wall and fireplace. Neighbors would often see him on top of his roof, repairing the wood-shake shingles he installed.
Lewie passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021, from heart failure at his home in Eagle Grove with his daughter by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife Ferne; mother and father; stepfather; two brothers and two sisters.
Lewie is survived by his daughter, Lu; sons, William and James and his wife Carolyn, their children, Elizabeth (Kyle), Michelle and Paul and five-month-old great-grandson, Gabriel.
