James Edward Seibert

 James Edward Seibert, son of George and Teresa (Benton) Seibert was born on April 10, 1937, at Albia, IA.  He was raised in Albia graduating from Albia High School in 1955.  Jim attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA. and Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL.

 

    Jim was united in marriage to Judith Ann Dixon on December 22, 1957, at Birmingham, IA., where he was serving as pastor of the Methodist Church.  To this union were born three children, James II, Jo and Julie.  Judy and Jim were divorced on July 17, 1990.  On July 7, 1991, he was united in marriage to Sharon Lee (Hansen) Smith of Eagle Grove, IA.

 

    Over 38 years in active ministry he served United Methodist Churches in the following areas of Iowa: Birmingham-Kilbourne, Burlington Circuit-(Spring Grove-Oak Grove-Augusta), Ladora-Koszta-Ohio Circuit, Kellogg-

- Pleasant View- Bethel Circuit, Clarke County Cooperative Parish (Murray-Thayer-Lorimor-Hopeville-Lacelle), Danville-Long Creek, Lanesboro-Churdan; Griswold – Lewis, Prairie City- Pleasant Hill, Burlington Grace, Goldfield-Hardy and Manson.  Jim also served as the Conference Statistician of the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church for 18 years. 12 years on the Board of Directors of the United Methodist Ministers’ Credit Union.

 

    One who was interested in the community beyond the local church he became involved in the following: Kellogg Lion’s Club, Kellogg Fire Department, Chairman Fund Drive for Kellogg’s first ambulance, Murray Lion’s Club, Chairman of Fund Drive for the new community/library building at Murray, member of Prairie City Council, chaired fund drive for new ambulance equipment, member of Eagle Grove City Council, Chaired Fund Drive for new aquatic center and little league football uniforms (4th & 5th grades) and several fund drives for the Crossroad’s Youth & Family Ministries in Goldfield.

 

    Jim passed away Monday, July 5, 2021, at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City at the age of 84 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, George Benton, Francis, Bobbie Dow, John, Calvin, Patty and Kathryn and son-in-law, Mark Thielen.

 

    Survivors include his wife Sharon; his three children, James II of St. Louis, MO., Jo  (Mike) Adams of Prairie City, IA., and Julie (Donald) Woods of Cedar Rapids, IA.; three BONUS children, Debra Thielen of Eagle Grove, Denise (Jim) Moore, of Altoona, IA. and Lisa (Larry) Brott of Des Moines, IA.; grandchildren, James Seibert III (Patricia), Kristina (Trey) Bugh, Brittany (Eric) Kozlowski, Brian ( Kelsey) Adams, Kassi (Justin) Scherrman, McKenna, Graham and Seth Woods, Rachel Finan, Dylan, Logan (Coleen) and Derek (Chelsi) Moore, Krystal (Cody) Frank, Dustin (Kristen) Brott, and two special grandchildren, Roy and Sky Hoang; great grandchildren, Alexander, Makenzie, Jaimey and Elliana Bugh, Madison and Olivia Seibert, Emma, Clayton, Barrett and Electia Frank, Garrett and Regan Adams, Chloe and Ella Scherrman, Cameron and Marguax Kozolwski, Rose, Matthew, Patrick and Adalyn Moore; sister, Georgina (Walter) Beary of Cedar Rapids and a brother, Richard (Barbara) Seibert of Waukee, IA.

 

    Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Rev. Steve Hanson officiating.  Visitation is Friday from 12:30 to 2;00 p.m.
