A Groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday, May 25 for the new Daybreak Foods, Inc. facility that will be located just north of Eagle Grove on Hwy 17. As they transition some of their laying hens to cage-free, the need to process the eggs from these chickens presented an opportunity to construct the new egg breaking/raw egg production plant that will employ between 10 and 18 people.

Rick Roedl, Daybreak Foods Capital Projects Manager, stated that the company began looking for a location to build the facility about a year ago.

“Toward the 11th hour, when we were not quite finding the right place to land, we got a call from Bryce Davis,” said Roedl.  “...and then we landed right here.”

The land they closed on had a house sitting on it.  The house was successfully relocated to an available lot in Eagle Grove, located in the vicinity of Memorial Hall.

Bill Rehm, Daybreak Foods President and whose dad started the company, said, “We’re a company that’s dedicated to understanding our customers’ needs and finding a way to help them.”

He added that they greatly appreciate the city of Eagle Grove and Wright County’s people who made this project happen.

“We’re excited to get going. This particular site gives us everything we were looking for...and it’s a good proximity to all our other locations,” said Rehm.

With Summitt Engineering and Construction at the helm, Rehm said the operational target day is this fall.  Phase 2 and Phase 3 projects could follow as customers’ needs arise.

“Wright County is agriculturally-based, and this (Daybreak’s building) is value-added for us. We’re happy they stayed in Wright County,” said Supervisor Karl Helgevold.

“Eagle Grove has a long-standing relationship with Daybreak,” added Eagle Grove City Administrator Bryce Davis, pointing out that they have already demonstrated involvement with the Chamber, the schools, and the community of Eagle Grove.

“There is also the ability for (Daybreak) to expand and create even more jobs in the community,” said Davis

“We’re looking forward to working with the people of Eagle Grove for a long time,” concluded Rehm.

“It’s a win/win for everyone,” added Helgevold.
