John Ole Larson
John Ole Larson, the son of Oscar and Irene Hazel (Sheppler) Larson, was born on November 2, 1932, in Lake Township ~ Clarion, Iowa. Baptized on March 26, 1933 at the Holmes Lutheran Church.
He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Clarion High School in 1950. He then attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. When John returned – he started farming east of Webster City.
On March 7, 1954, John was united in marriage with Cassondra “Cass” Vaughan Nelson at the First Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) in Eagle Grove. In 1962, he sold off his dairy herd and moved to Vincent where he continued to farm, until retiring in 1982 and they moved south of Eagle Grove. John was then an owner / operator for ASGROW seed company. Cass preceded him in death on March 3, 2013. John then moved to Windsor Manor in Webster City.
John was a former member of South Ennis Lutheran Church and a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church – where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Masonic lodge for many years.
John was a “Leader” – he hated following!! (which is family quickly learned). He loved to tinker and re-build – 2 cylinder tractors, collect Ertl toy tractors and tell you how to get somewhere – anywhere (John O. was a google map – before Google Maps!) His trips always seem to involve cashews and coffee.
John passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City, at the age of 88 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rodney Larson; sister Betty Kessner (Bob); sister-in-law, Jackie Vaughan and brother-in-law, Leo Nelson.
Survivors include his children: Christy (Dave) Mueller, daughter Laurie (Jim) Legvold, son Jim (Tomajean) Larson, son Ted (Holly) Larson, grandchildren Marcus (Sara) Brock, JC Brock (Taylor), Danielle (Justin) Kennedy, Brett (Katie) Legvold, Connor Larson, Paige Weinschenk (Evan) and Kenady Highland; great-grandchildren Logan Fox, Lucas and Leyton Brock, Carter and Owen Brock, Cooper, Sawyer and Monroe Legvold and Jade and Declan Kennedy; sisters-in-law, , Trudy Larson, Jerry Nelson and Anita Idio (Dindo) and many nieces and nephews.
