Terance (Terry) Mosher

On July 29, 2023, Terance (Terry) Dean Mosher, 82 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, IA, where he lived for over 11 years.

A Visitation and Celebration of Life was held on Thursday, Aug. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Graveside services were held on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Lake City Cemetery.

Terry was born on Aug. 20, 1940, to Willard (Shorty) and Etna Mosher of Rockwell City, IA. He had four siblings. He grew up helping on the farm and enjoyed his horses. He graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1959. He met Carol Filer at the Bohemian Hall, and they were united in marriage on June 6, 1959. Together they had three children, David (63), Brenda (59), and Dan (50). He started out his work life working on the Filer turkey farm and working at IBP. In 1968, Terry and Carol moved to Eagle Grove, IA and he started a new career as an over-the-road truck driver, driving for Umthun’s, ACE Lines as an owner/operator, and then finished his career as a Teamster with Roadway Enterprises. His CB handle was “Muleskinner”. Shortly after retirement, he began showing signs of early onset Alzheimer’s. Terry and Carol went their separate ways in 2002.

He loved social gatherings with his friends and family when he was home on weekends. These gatherings always included listening to classic county music, especially George Jones. This music continued to bring him joy throughout his life and his time at Eastern Star. Terry was a collector, some may say, a hoarder. He collected things to share them with others. He would give you anything he had. His grandchildren have many memories of him giving them numerous stuffed animals and piles of candy from the local dollar store, as well as many trips to Casey’s for donuts on Saturday mornings.

Terry was a prankster and loved to make people smile. His pranks and sense of humor were also known to get him in trouble on several occasions. Anyone who knew Terry probably has at least one story of a prank or practical joke that Terry pulled on them or someone they know.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Willard (Shorty) and Etna, and his siblings, Patricia, Billy, and Gary (Bub). He is survived by Carol Mosher; his sister, Sharon; and children, David Mosher (Deb) of Carroll, IA; Brenda Kohout (Herb) of Jordan, MN; and Dan Mosher (Tiffany) of Boone, IA; and grandchildren, Steve Mosher of Key West, FL; Melissa Mosher of Port Hadlock, WA; Tony Kohout of Audubon, IA; Wendy Turney of New Prague, MN; Zach Kohout of New Prague, MN; Mackenzie Mosher of Boone, IA; Maci Mosher of Boone, IA; and seven great-grandchildren.
