Shirley Marshall

Shirley Ann Marshall, the youngest of six children born to Alton Milan and Evie Owens, was born on July 12, 1945, in Granite City, Illinois, where she was raised and educated.

On October 19, 1963, Shirley married the love of her life, Steve Marshall, in Manhattan, KS. She and Steve have two children, Tammy and Steve. She dedicated her life to the family she loved so very much.

They moved to Eagle Grove in 1971, where the couple made many lifelong friends. Shirley enjoyed bowling – she bowled on the Friday morning coffee league for many years. She also enjoyed golfing, traveling, playing cards – any kind of cards – especially Bridge, Pitch and Texas Hold’em. Shirley was the happiest when she was with her family and more than anything, she loved being Gramma to Michael and Katie.

Shirley passed from this life on December 16, 2021, surrounded by her family, at the age of 76 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, George and Millie Marshall; three sisters, Carolyn Stephens, Beatrice Harvey and Bonnie Grimes; brother, Archie Milan and brother-in-law, Roger Marshall.

She will be greatly missed by her devoted husband of 58 years, Steve; daughter, Tammy Christenson (Al) of Spencer; son, Steve Marshall (Angie) of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; grandchildren, Michael Christenson of Inver Grove Heights, MN and Katie Christenson of Chicago, IL; sister, Pat Barnes (Joe) of Kyle, TX; sister-in-law, Jayne Akob (George) of Vail, AZ; extended family and many friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Visitation will be Sunday, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery.

Memorials may be left to the Eagle Grove Golf Course where many of her best memories were made, University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital ~ for Shirley’s love of children or Unity Point Hospice ~ in honor of their caring and compassionate care given to Shirley and her family.
