Mildred Knight

Mildred Knight was born May 29, 1932, the daughter of Nellie and Edwin Ogland. She passed away peacefully in Melbourne FL on Oct. 7, 2023. Millie grew up on the family farm near Eagle Grove IA, where she graduated high school. She married her beloved husband James “Pete” Knight in 1950 and they celebrated 63 years of marriage. After their Air Force years, they continued farming and raised four children in Wright County IA until retirement. Millie was devoted to her children and husband, loving farm life. She lived a life of service in her neighborhood, community, church and school, serving on many boards and committees, following in the footsteps of her Norwegian relatives and influence of her heritage.

Millie was a trailblazer and a positive influence in the lives of her many dear friends and relatives. She was a good listener and always had time for a visit and a cup of coffee and loved to bake. Millie and Pete traveled the world for fun as they enjoyed their hobbies of collecting glassware and attending Dodger baseball games as well as spending joy-filled winters in Vero Beach FL and many summers at their home in Branson MO welcoming friends and family.

Mildred is survived by her four children, Linda Knight (Gary Johnson) of Cocoa Beach, FL; Sue Cross of West Des Moines; Dale Knight (Ann) West Des Moines and Ron Knight (Sarah) Indialantic, FL; sister Helen Russell, dear nieces and nephews, close family friend Jeff Slaikeu and life-long friend Alison Nicoll; grandchildren Sara Wientzen, Megan Conway (Brian), Alexandra Knight (Chaning), Jessica Claudin (Pike) and Nash Johnson (Miranda); great grandchildren Landon, Meredith, Emery, Vincent, Brynlee, Joseph, Lyanna and Analee. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and Edwin Ogland, her husband James “Pete” Knight, her sister Ann Trotter and brother Ervin Ogland; brothers-in-law Bernard Trotter, Tom Russell and sister-in-law Sue Ogland.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, Iowa. Memorial gifts may be made to the United Presbyterian Church or the Wright County Fair.
