Mike Hutchinson

Michael Francis Hutchinson, the son of Harry “Bud” and Naomi (Garthwaite) Hutchinson, was born on Oct. 19, 1936, in Charles City, Iowa. When he was preschool aged, the family moved to Iowa City. Mike graduated from St. Patrick High School in Iowa City then attended the University of Iowa. He joined the Iowa Army National Guard while a student at U of I.

On Dec. 28, 1959, Mike was united in marriage with Carolyn Pryor, to this union two sons were born, Marc and Scott.

While Mike was employed in the management program with the JC Penney, he was transferred to different cities in Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota -where he managed a store in Milbank.

In 1975, the family moved to Eagle Grove, where they owned and operated a Coast to Coast Hardware Store for 30 years.

Mike was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a lecture and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Barber Shop Quartet and the Eagle Grove Paddlewheel Players. Mike passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, at Rotary Senior Living, at the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Lisa Hutchinson.

Mike is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn; sons, Marc Hutchinson (Heather) of Eagle Grove and Scott Hutchinson (Jennifer Nemitz) of Owatonna, MN and grandchildren: Brittany Hutchinson, Logan Hutchinson and Brant Mayberry.

Visitation was held at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove on Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 4 – 6 p.m.
