Margaret Louise Hamer Murphy

Margaret Louise Hamer Murphy, 92, passed away on Monday, November 08, 2021 in Auburn, AL. She was born on January 17, 1928 in rural Eagle Grove, Iowa to Mars and Leah Hamer. She began her secretarial career in Des Moines, Iowa where she met her husband of 51 years George Lawrence Murphy, Jr. After graduation and a Tour of Duty with the Air Force, they moved to Ames. In January of 1955, they moved to Auburn, Alabama. Margaret worked for many years at Auburn University, then at Craftmaster Printers, Inc., from which she retired in 2001. Mrs Murphy was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, George Murphy; her parents, Brothers Howard Hamer and Marvin “Bud” Hamer; sister's Doris Kubly and Norma Johnson, and sister-in-law Alice Murphy. She is survived by her two children: Mark A Murphy (Cynthia) and Sherry M. Stanyard (Larry), her grandchildren Alice Murphy (LB), Jenna Morgan, Kevin Murphy (Sally), Sherry Hurst (Richard), Allen Stanyard, Jason Morgan, and sister Phyllis Bowman of Eagle Grove, Iowa and their families. A memorial service was held in The Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home on Friday, November 12th, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Christian Women's Job Corp of Lee or the Food Pantry at Auburn United Methodist Church.
