Margaret Elkin
Margaret “Bunny” Elkin, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, from Covid-19 complications on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City, Iowa.
Bunny was born in Clear Lake, Iowa to Theodore and Myrtle (Rasmussen) Bethell on March 31, 1929. She was born on Easter Sunday and nicknamed Bunny. She was educated in Clarion and Eagle Grove, Iowa and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1947. Bunny was united in marriage to Elmer “Tubb” Elkin in Eagle Grove on January 31, 1948.
Bunny was a stay-at-home mom to four children and shared her many talents and gifts with others in her community. She loved music and had a green thumb for flower and vegetable gardening. Bunny had an eye for design and was an accomplished seamstress sewing for others, as well as her family.
Bunny baked cinnamon rolls and would sell them to a few businesses in town on a weekly basis. Her mother was more “famous” for the rolls, but Bunny would tell people it was her recipe that her mother used. She liked to cook and bake, sharing with her church, Rotary Senior Living, and neighbors. She gave her time and talents willingly to her church and to Rotary Senior Living. Bunny was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove and was active in her church circle.
One of Bunny’s proudest accomplishments was getting her CDL, with her husband as her driving instructor. She drove tandem for 5 years with Tubb, as owner-operators, working for Umthun Trucking Co. in Eagle Grove. After retirement, they traveled the country in a motorhome. They loved fishing and spent many vacation years on Minnesota lakes. Tubb preceded her in death in 2000.
Bunny is survived by a son, Mark Elkin of Eagle Grove, IA; daughters, Holly (Thomas) Riemenschneider of Webster City, IA; Heidi (David) McCuddin of Pleasant Hill, IA; daughter-in-law, Teresa Elkin of Perham, MN; and sister-in-law, Joann Bethell of Sartell, MN. She is also survived by six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Thomas in 2016, sister, Francis Adams, and brother, James Bethell.
Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church Women’s Fellowship or Unity Point Hospice in Fort Dodge, IA. There was a visitation on Friday, September 9, beginning at 10 AM with a memorial service following at 11 AM, at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove.
