Donald James Motley
Donald James Motley, 92, of Eagle Grove, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at the Webster City Hospital.
Don, son of Elbert and Nellie Motley, was born June 30th, 1931 in Sioux City, IA. He grew up and graduated from Sioux City East HS in 1950 where he was active in Basketball and Track. He then married his first wife Thelma who were married for 19 years and had 2 children, Debbie and Donnie Jr, before she passed away from MS.
After graduating High School Don worked at the Sioux City Stockyards and was in the Hog business as a salesman for roughly 40 years. 13 years of that time was working in Webster City, IA until he started working at Eatons in Belmond, IA and worked there until he retired in 2011 at the age of 80.
Don met his wife Joanne at the Stockyards where they both worked. They were united in marriage June 26th, 1970. They then moved to Eagle Grove in 1972 where they raised their family.
In his spare time Don enjoyed fishing, Golfing, sitting on his front porch with a cold Pepsi, daily trips to the Family Table to eat, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes!
Don is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Motley of Eagle Grove; his children, Debbie (Craig) Woods of Eagle Grove, Joe Pendergast of Des Moines, Don Jr (Ann) Motley of Eagle Grove, and Brian (Angela) Motley of North Liberty; 9 grandchildren, Shannon, Jory(Yvonne), Tim(Brook), Mike, Landis(Tana), Kelsey(Ryan), Andrew, Allie and Jace; 14 great-grandchildren, and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elbert and Nellie Motley; 2 brothers, 3 sisters and his first wife Thelma.
A Celebration Of Life will be held at a later date to honor Don’s memory. In lieu of flowers, all cards and monetary donations to help lessen the unforeseen expenses may be sent to his wife Joanne at 210 Northwestern Ave Eagle Grove, IA 50533.
