Cleolis Hoath
Cleolis Bradley Hoath, age 98, of Kimberling City, Missouri died Feb. 6, 2023 at home.
Cleolis Hoath had lived in Kimberling City since 1981. Prior to moving to Kimberling City, she and her husband Gordon lived in Eagle Grove, Iowa, for 34 years. Gordon Hoath passed away in 1989.
Born in 1924 in Magnolia, Arkansas, Cleolis Hoath attended Southern Arkansas University for two years. She transferred to Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, where she graduated with a BA degree in Industrial Journalism in 1947. After graduation from college, Cleolis was tempted to try a career in the public sector. However, after consideration and deep love of a close family, she chose “as she put it” the best career in the world; that of a stay-at-home mom & homemaker.
Before retiring with her husband in Kimberling City she was active in AAUW (American Association of University Women), The Eagle Grove Methodist Church, Eastern Star and other civic organizations.
Cleolis Hoath is survived by one son, Thomas Clinton Hoath of Kimberling City; daughter-in-law Sheri Hoath of Cincinnati, Ohio; three grandchildren: Danielle Hoath Bayuelo and her husband Christian Bayuelo of Clifton, New Jersey, Bradley Hoath and his wife Allison Marlatt of Cleveland, Ohio and Julie Hoath of Boston, Massachusetts; three great-grandchildren, Olivia & Devin Bayuelo, Benjamin Hoath, one brother, Thomas (Speedy) Howard Bradley and his family of Magnolia, Arkansas.
Cleolis was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Ray Bradley, husband Gordon Hoath and son Dr. Steven Hoath.
At Cleolis’ request, there will be no public service. The body will be cremated under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Homes. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Kimberling City Library P.O. Box 730, Kimberling City, Missouri, 65686.
A clipping of the following poem was found in her personal file:
“Don’t grieve for me for now—I’m free. I’m following the path God has laid, you see. I took His hand when I heard His call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work, or to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joys: a friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. O yes, these things too, I will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full; I savored much, good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief. Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee…God wanted me now. He set me free.” -Anonymous
