Carolyn Hutchinson

Carolyn Louise Hutchinson (Pryor), was born on March 2nd, 1937 in St. Paul, MN. She was the youngest daughter of Herold and Teressa Pryor (Garden Grove, CA). She graduated from Dowling High School in Des Moines, IA and went on to study at Mary Crest College in Davenport.

She met Michael Hutchinson in Iowa City, IA and the two were married on December 28th of 1959.

While Mike pursued a career in Management with JCPenny, Carolyn helped support the household in various occupations prior to the birth of their two sons, Marc and Scott Hutchinson. In 1975 the family moved to Eagle Grove, IA where the two co-owned a Coast-to-Coast Hardware Store downtown for over 30 years before retiring in 1988.

At the age of 50, Carolyn pursued and obtained her private pilot’s license. Learning to fly was one of her greatest joys in life. When she wasn’t flying, Carolyn was a voracious reader and looked forward to the local library’s annual book sale. She also loved and spoiled the couple’s little dog, Ollie. In her retirement she was also the instructor for a water aerobics class at the Eagle Grove Rec Center.

Carolyn passed away on Friday, August 30th, after a short illness at the age of 87 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Hutchinson; sister Cynthia, and her daughter in law Lisa Hutchinson.

She is survived by her two sons: Marc (Heather) Hutchinson of Eagle Grove and Scott Hutchinson (Jenn Nemitz) of Owatonna, MN, as well as her three grandchildren: Brittany and Logan Hutchinson of Owatonna and Brant Mayberry of Des Moines.

A Celebration of Life was held at Foust Funeral Home on Thursday, September 12, from 4 to 6 p.m.
