Bruce Newcomb

Bruce Monroe Newcomb was born October 17, 1950 to Monroe and Gladys Newcomb. After a short illness, he passed away on June 23, 2024 at the age of 73 at the University Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Des Moines, Iowa.

Bruce was raised on the family farm five miles southeast of Eagle Grove, Iowa. After attending the “Troy 6” country school, and the Woolstock school, he attended Eagle Grove High School where he graduated in 1968. Following high school, Bruce attended Iowa State University, and graduated in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

He then returned home to help manage the family farm, and found time to travel by motorcycle and enjoy life. Aside from his farm duties, Bruce owned and/or managed several other businesses. At one point, he managed a large hog operation.

Bruce married Jolene Ferrand of Marcus, Iowa on July 15, 1978, and they welcomed a son, Benjamin Bruce Newcomb on June 9, 1981.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and one sister (Linda Weiss (Tom) of Clarion, Iowa). He is survived by his son (Ben), three sisters: Sandra Eberhart (Dave) of Lees Summitt, Missouri, Nina Cullinan (Tom) of Carroll, Iowa, Renae Handley (Larry) of Princeton, Texas) and one brother (George Newcomb (Kathy) of Waukee, Iowa.). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will hold a “celebration of life service for Bruce” in Waukee, Iowa at a later date.
