Arlene Croxell

G. Arlene (Wischmeyer) Croxell was born on January 14, 1921, in Dickens, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Lake Center High School near Ruthven – walking 2 miles to school.

On July 3, 1940, Arlene and Estle Croxell ran away to Freemont, NE to get married, Arlene did not tell her parents until November. They began farming near Dickens, Iowa, and then moved to a farm south of Eagle Grove in 1958 where they farmed 37 years before retiring in 1978. Most of their winter months were spent at their home in Edinburg, TX, and the summer months in Eagle Grove, first on the farm and then in their home in Eagle Grove, where they moved in 2001.

Arlene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove and UMW. She also assisted with Troy Trojans 4-H club, served as treasurer for American Legion Auxiliary in Clay County, was a member of Hawkeye Camper, Sugar Footers and Buttons and Bows Square Dancers. Arlene was a big supporter of the Senior Citizens Center and congregate meals and always enjoyed going there to play cards – her favorite activity!

Arlene passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 99 1/2 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Estle; brother, Cecil; sister, Louisa Kelley and sons-in-law, Ron Lockman and Robert Mudd.

Survivors include her daughters, Phyllis Cornwell-Mudd of Deming, NM and Jeannette Lockman of Edinburg, TX; son, Dennis Croxell of Eagle Grove; granddaughter, Debbie Cornwell of Dallas, TX; grandsons: Martin Helgeson (Lynnae) of Green Bay, WI, Philip Helgeson (Sara) of Prescott, WI and LTC Melvin Helgeson M.D. (Gretchen) of North Potomac, MD; great-grandchildren: Alyvia, Kayson, Isabella, Emma, Ellie, Tessa, Ava, Cole and Sophia.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Pastor Sara Sutter officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time the funeral home. Burial will be in Troy Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
