As long as city doesn’t have to commit funds, dog park approved

The possibility of a proposed dog park at Jaycee Park was discussed at length at this past Monday’s meeting of the Eagle Grove City Council, with members also giving their results of informal surveys they took themselves. In the end, it looks like it will become a reality.

According to Bob Torkelson, the Park/Rec Board reviewed the project and are in favor of it. There is a member of the local Scout troop that would like to do it as an Eagle Scout project, with other members of the troop willing to help him. “There seems to be a lot of support for this,” said Torkelson. “The Scout troop could help us with some of the work.”

However, Council members had far different views on this idea. “Pretty much everyone I talked to was for it,” said Mike Weland, while Josh Schild expressed the opposite. “I only had three citizens for it, the rest were against,” said Schild. “They feel it’s a bad location, and that they’re concerned about the upkeep when we’re struggling to get stuff done (in the parks) already.” He went on to say that they have seen the existing dog park in Webster City be barely used and think it will happen here too.
