Wright County Economic Development candidate offered high salary

After fi ve months of searching, Wright County could have a new economic development director starting as soon as July 1.

Denny Bowman, interim director for Wright County Economic Development, said that the WCED board had initially begun looking for a candidate recently out of school who could start out by gaining experience in Wright County. However, after seeing that few applicants were willing to take on the position’s job description, especially at the offered salary, they realized they needed a different kind of candidate.

“We realized we needed to go after someone that was experienced,” Bowman said.

Currently, WCED is considering 13 different projects with a combined potential impact of $600 million for Wright County. To handle that workload and be a good fi t for the county, Bowman said, the department needs someone with a strong understanding of agriculture and a familiarity with Iowa laws and regulations.

“We have found a candidate that fulfi lled that, and they have agreed to the position if we made the offer,” Bowman told the county board of supervisors on Monday.
