Waterloo Man Arrested for Burglary

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Andrew Schroeder, 36, of Waterloo with Third Degree Burglary following an incident at a rural residence east of Belmond Saturday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the property owner that Schroeder was in the residence without permission. It was reported that Schroeder may have access to weapons inside the residence and that he is currently on Federal probation.

Schroeder had locked himself in the residence and law enforcement made multiple unsuccessful attempts to reach him by phone and public-address system from outside the residence. At about 7pm, the North Iowa Special Operations Group made entry into the residence and Schroeder was taken into custody without incident.

Schroeder is being held in the Wright County jail with a $10,000 cash only bond with a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 12th. The Belmond Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and Belmond Ambulance also assisted at the scene.

NOTE: A criminal charge is merely an accusation and persons are considered innocent unless or until proven guilty in a court of law.
