UDMO and Wright County support each other

Upper Des Moines Area Opportunity is a community action agency that works to “address the effects of poverty on individuals and families” in Wright and other counties. Mary Ohrtman, the UDMO outreach director for this region, presented activities and requested funding at the supervisor’s meeting on Monday.

First, Ohrtman expressed gratitude to Supervisor Rick Rasmussen. “I want to thank Rick for serving on our board—we really appreciate that. And I want to thank the board of supervisors for your continual support with our agency. It’s been fantastic to have a county that supports us so well,” Ohrtman said.

Ohrtman then began going through the report letter she’d brought the supervisors. “It states there that Upper Des Moines assisted 1,674 individuals in 610 Wright County households,” Ohrtman said. “I want you to know, because it’s been asked me at every supervisor’s meeting I’ve been to—‘Has this number increased, Mary?’ Yes, it has. We’re looking at over 100 individuals from your previous year. That’s sad to say, but that’s what we’re here for.”
