Supervisors deal with drainage issue

In their role as drainage district trustees, the Wright County Board of Supervisors took up discussion of an agenda item presented by landowner Don Tice. This concerned an ongoing ponding problem southeast of Lake Cornelia and along the east side of Page Avenue.

“We’ve put a pile of money into trying to fix this problem,” said Tice. “I don’t know exactly when the tile was broken.” While the Board went into the discussion believing it was not in a drainage district, drainage clerk Deb Lukes informed them that it indeed was. “It’s in DD#14,” said Lukes. It’s believed the tile is over 100 years old.

County Engineer Adam Clemons was also present for the discussion. “We’ll need permission from the railroad to tile under their right of way (to drain the area into the lake),” said Clemons. It was also the initial thought that it would only require a repair, which now turns out to be an improvement instead. “It would be classified as an improvement, which will require a hearing,” said Lukes. “When an improvement is done, it then becomes a district asset,” added Supervisor Karl Helgevold. Tice will now file a petition for improvement to start the process rolling.
