State Champs

Coach Ann Sampson and the Golden Stars Drill Team traveled to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines last Thursday, Nov. 29, to compete in the nation’s largest dance competition, the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association (ISDTA). They performed three routines, bringing home trophies in each category while also setting some new team records. The Golden Stars earned a 5th Place finish in Kick.

This was an award well-earned in a competitive fi eld of entries considering they moved up a class size because of increased enrollment at Eagle Grove Area School District. The next award presented was for Jazz, where the Golden Stars brought home a 3rd Place trophy. Sampson and the dancers were beyond thrilled with this fi nish as they beat a school they have never beaten before.

The icing on their cake came in their Pom routine where the Golden Stars claimed a 1st Place - State Championship trophy. Another accomplishment came in fi nding out that one judge gave them a 69 out of a possible 70 points - the highest score the Golden Stars have ever earned at ISDTA. “I am so proud of these dancers! They have worked so hard for this and they left it on the floor every single time! Way to go Golden Stars,” said Coach Sampson on a Facebook post she made right after the competition.
