Sheriff’s department introduces K-9 Brit

Since 2003, the Wright County Sheriff’s Department has protected the community with not only its officers, but the help of a service canine trained in narcotics detection and other tasks. This spring, K-9 unit Ali retired, and with the support of the community, the department’s K-9 handler, Deputy Adam Nerlien, has now taken on a new dog: Brit.

Brit is an 18-month-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix who was purchased from North Iowa K-9, a facility located near Fort Dodge. Since the end of June, he’s been everywhere with Nerlien, and was also approved as a deputy in the Sheriff’s Department by the county supervisors.

“He’s just kind of getting used to going to work with me,” Nerlien said.
