SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK

Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 25 – 29, 2019 Wright County Emergency Management, Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEMD), Iowa Emergency Management Association and the National Weather Service (NWS) will again recognize the last week in March (March 25-29), as Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa. The goal of Severe Weather Awareness Week is to provide Iowans with a better understanding and to increase awareness of the state's spring weather hazards.

For each day during Severe Weather Awareness Week, a different subject will be featured:

* Monday - Severe thunderstorms

* Tuesday - Weather warnings

* Wednesday - Tornadoes

* Thursday - Family preparedness

* Friday - Flash floods

The highlight of the week will be the annual tornado drill, which will take place on Wednesday, March 27. A Test Tornado Watch will be issued at 10am with the Test Tornado Warning being issued about 10:15am. Wright County will participate in the Test Tornado Warning and out-door warning sirens will be activated when the NWS issues the Test Tornado Warning about 10:15am. Residents, schools and businesses are encouraged to utilize this test tornado warning to practice their own tornado warning procedures.
