Robert Blue Middle Schoolers cast their Iowa Caucus vote

Voting is our civic right as Americans. Although the law states our vote doesn’t count until we are 18, that doesn’t mean kids should have to wait to learn about the process until then. That is why Linc Morgan, fifth and sixth grade social studies teacher; and Sarah Teeselink, Talented and Gifted instructor; decided to get their Robert Blue Middle Schoolers voting in the 2016 Iowa Youth Presidential Straw Poll.

On Tuesday, Jan. 26, despite a late start from snow and ice, RBMS students headed to “the polls” to cast their votes during class time - one for a Democratic Presidential candidate, and another for a Republican.

“You could really tell that many of the kids had heard politic talk at home,” said Morgan, who spent time teaching the kids about voting and caucusing in his social studies class prior to the vote.
