Red hot cooking

Eagle Grove has a celebrity of sorts to be proud of...and just in time for Christmas.

Blanche Bosteder was recently shocked to learn that her recipe for Red Hot Cinnamon Popcorn was published in the Dec. 2019/January 2020 edition of the “Our Iowa” magazine.

These fun holiday-inspired, but good any time of the year, popcorn balls have been made by Bosteder many times over the years, but never did she imagine she and this recipe would be featured in a popular magazine. But it happened, thanks to Wright County resident, Karen Weld who is a regular contributor to the publication. Weld said she submitted the recipe months ago, but never knows whether it will be published or not. She found out in November that Bosteder’s would appear in their holiday issue because it is festively fitting.

Bosteder said she first got her hands on the recipe from her daughter, Deb Ripperger who lives in Rolfe, and has been making it now for years.

“It’s good, but it’s hard to find those red hot candies,” she laughed.

In fact, when she’s preparing for the holidays, she usually buys the red hots in bulk to make sure she has enough.

As a “thank you” for the recipe, Bosteder received a red “Iowa” apron and 4- copies of the magazine, which she has proudly distributed to her siblings, children, grandchildren, and other friends.
