Recorder’s Office warns residents of scam

The Wright County Recorder’s Office is encouraging residents to be cautious if they receive a piece of mail asking them if they want a copy of their deed and property assessment.

Recorder’s offices across the state have received phone calls from concerned citizens about letters they received saying there was “deed activity recorded in public record” and that they should obtain a “current property grant deed and assessment” from companies charging $70 to $80 for the copy service.

The notice is designed to cause a homeowner to believe there has been a recent document, which is often inaccurate. Anyone receiving this notice should not be alarmed or feel that it is necessary to respond to it. A copy of a deed may be obtained by searching the records at the Recorder’s Office and requesting a copy which generally costs less than a couple of dollars in copy fees.
