Students enrolled at the Career Academy in Eagle Grove are getting a behind-the-scenes look at the dayto- day operations of local businesses.

Recently, the Bio Process Technology students spent the morning at Corn LP in Goldfield, learning about the process involved to make ethanol.

Andy Miller, plant manager, had a little experiment ready and waiting for the students when they arrived. He asked them each to cut a kernel of corn in half, and then to carefully inspect it. In biology, you dissect a frog to learn how things work. It’s no different with a kernel of corn - it is a very complex unit, despite it’s small size. Different parts are used for different things.
