RBMS travels back to the Oregon Trail days

Robert Blue Middle School fifth graders are around the age of 11. Their life consists of going to school, hanging out with friends, and playing their favorite sports, video games, and pastimes. It’s nothing like the life of a pre-teen 200 years ago, and that’s exactly what the Oregon Trail lesson the studied in school over the course of the last month or so taught them.

The students quickly discovered through reading and research just how difficult life was for children and their parents, not to mention their livestock, traveling on the Oregon trail in pursuit of rich soil and a better life. Their assignments then extended to study the life of one individual who traveled that trail and then prepare a presentation on them. They were even challenged to create a caricature-style drawing of their person.
