Pritchard, Gabe Rolon both first place at Spencer

The Eagle wrestling team took a limited number of entries to the Spencer Tournament last Saturday, but still had a good day in taking sixth place out of 14 teams with two individual champions.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton won the team title with 204 points, followed in the top six by Central Lyon/George-Little Rock (CL-GLR) with 169, Jackson County Central (JCC) with 172.5, Spencer with 142, LeMars with 130.5 and the Eagles with 102.5. Taking their weight brackets were Kaden Pritchard (106) and Gabe Rolon (113).

Following a first round bye, Pritchard used three straight falls to score his gold medal. Rolon won all four of his bouts by fall, with the fastest in a mere 41 seconds in the title match. Mark Dawson (145) placed third, scoring three falls and a big 17-2 technical fall to take his step on the podium.

“We only brought six guys, as we had an injury and some other varsity guys that wrestled a JV tournament and are not quite ready for varsity tournaments yet,” stated head coach Jake Groth.
