Preserving EG history

In 1903, the Cornerstone of the Carnegie Public Library was laid in Eagle Grove. It served in that capacity until 1976 when the new Eagle Grove Memorial Library was built where it still sits today.

The Carnegie Library sat vacant for a while, but the beautiful building was eventually placed on the National Historical Registry and turned into a museum, The project is said to have gotten it’s start when Roger H. and Palmer L. Larson left a large sum of money to the city with specifications it be used for rehab of the Carnegie Library. The museum committee painted, replaced windows, recycled original materials to make update and repairs throughout, sorted through content, added new doors, finished the basement...and since then the donations of Eagle Grove memorabilia have been pouring in, capturing great memories of people, places, and things from our community.

Most recent to make a donation was Dr. Michael Moffitt. As anyone who has ever been into his original dentist office located on Broadway in Eagle Grove, Dr. Moffitt had a vast collection of Eagle Grove memorabilia that hung on the walls and sat around on tables and shelves as decorations. They were a point of conversation for many patients, salespeople, and visitors who came into his office over the years. Most of the pieces came from auctions where he bought them.

Upon his partial retirement, and his son, Dr. Jordan Moffitt, taking over the practice and the building of their new dental office located on Highway 17 in Eagle Grove, Dr. Michael Moffitt decided it was time to find a new home for these precious pieces of Eagle Grove memorabilia.
