Piloxing for diabete

 

Mackenze Ell was only three years old when she was diagnosed with diabetes.  Carson Lalor was 12 years old.  Harley Burmeister and Riley Ettinger were both in middle school.  

The good news for these Eagle Grove kids is, there’s a special place  just for kids like them, forced to deal with a life-changing desease.  That place is Camp Hertko Hollow at the Boone YCamp, and it teaches kids with diabetes that they can live normal, happy lives.  It was founded more than 45 years ago by Dr. Hertko and is staffed by medical professionals/students, diabetics, and parents of diabetic children, along with the YCamp staff.

For Mackenze, this will be her third trip to Camp Hertko Hollow.  She was only seven when she went for the first time.  The best part was, it was a weekend camp for families with diabetic children.

“I liked meeting kids who had the same questions and frustrations as I did (with diabetes),” she said.

While the kids were off simply being kids, the parents took part in education classes to help their child take control of their diabetes, instead of the ..........
