A piece of Eagle Grove history

Another local treasure has been donated to the Eagle Grove Historical Museum - a low-boy rocker believed to be roughly 150 years old. The piece was donated by Marilyn and Mel Sampson. Marilyn said she bought the beauty at an auction back in the late 1970’s conducted by Mike Ryerson here in Eagle Grove.

The rocker came from the office of Dr. E.F. Smith of the Smith and Hogenson medical clinic. Museum board member Ron Mohr said it was the second medical establishment in Eagle Grove and it was located to the east of where Security Savings Bank is now. Today, that “office” space is now home to apartments.

Marilyn said she has many fond memories of the rocker she had recovered by Joan Russell. The best - her kids sitting in it while they were growing up. Ironically, she always thought the one thing the kids hated about it, though, was that it squeaked.
