October has become “SOCKtober at Eagle Grove Elementary

Nine-year-old Alexa Jeske was at home one day when her sister, McKristie, showed her a “Kid President” video on the internet. It was about a “campaign” he started last year, SOCKtober, to collect socks and other necessities for kids in need. People from around the world saw his video, and more than one million people joined his cause. This year, his goal is to have two million people involved - and he just got one step closer, because Alexa has started her own campaign at Eagle Grove Elementary.

It’s her very first time ever organizing a project like this, but with the help of friends and family, it’s off to a great start. The first thing she and McKristie did was to get the okay from Elementary Principal Joe Erickson. After the two sisters made fliers, Alexa enlisted the help of her friend, Madi Axtell, to help her hang them up around the school. Alexa and McKristie also made posters that they hung up during Hallie’s (their other sister) home volleyball game.

“She was very excited to share the project with the school and I can tell her passion is helping others,” said Alexa’s fourth grade teacher, Jeanne Herrington. “I might also add that she is also that way in the classroom.  She is a smart little girl who has been raised to know and understand how important it is to help those who are less fortunate.
