New Memorial Garden in Des Moines will honor Sergeant Beminio and other fallen police officers

In 2016, two metro police officers were gunned down when they responded to a call. One of those officers was Tony Beminio, a former Eagle Grove resident. Now, another native of Eagle Grove, Tori (Axtell) Buldhuapt is part of a landscaping company that is designing a Memorial Garden for the fallen officers that will be developed in front of the Des Moines Police Station.

It was the owner of Landscapes by Martin that came up with the project idea to commemorate The Final Watch of officers Beminio and Justin Martin on November 2, 2106, along with all of the other 21 Des Moines Police Department officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. In their honor, his design models the shape of the Des Moines Police Department Badge. There is also a blue marking for each of the metro officer who have fallen while protecting others.

Buldhuapt, a 2015 graduate of Eagle Grove High School, graduated from Iowa State University in 2018 with a degree in Horticulture/ specializing in landscaping. After interning with the company in 2017, she is happy to have since accepted a full-time position with Landscapes by Martin and is very honored to be a part of this very special project. Her role was to create a 3-D image of the proposed Fallen Officer Memorial Garden (which is included in this story). She is very excited to say that this was one of her first projects using U-Vision which is a new landscaping design program.
