Named to Iowa All State Band and Iowa Ambassadors of Music

Music isn’t just something Maggie Wachowiak does, it’s part of who she is. In the next week, the first part of a dream she’s been working towards will come true when she performs as part of the prestigious Iowa All State Band. Next summer, the second part will come true when she travels to Europe to perform.

Eagle Grove High School junior Wachowiak began playing the flute at the end of fourth grade when her mom introduced her to the flute.

“She played the flute...and it’s (the instrument) I was most drawn to because I like playing the melody,” Wachowiak said.

Seven-and-a-half years later, she’s thrilled to say that all those hours of learning scales, private lessons, and attention to detail are paying off and have earned her the opportunity to play her flute in the Iowa All State Band.

“It was a lot of practice,” Wachowiak said of preparing for the Audition held October 21 in Hampton.
