Maxx Flumerfelt’s great grandfather a 1919 EGHS grad: Now it’s Maxx walking across the stage

When the Eagle Grove High School Class of 2019 received their diploma’s this past weekend, one of those graduates couldn’t help but think at least a little bit about someone else in his family going through the same thing 100 years earlier.

Maxx Flumerfelt never really knew his great grandfather Milford Thompson, but now he shares a unique distinction with him of graduating 100 years after he finished his high school education. Not only that, but in Thompson’s same class was a student named Elven Sharp. He would be Maxx’s great, great uncle on his father’s side. Is that not enough? Then consider that Maxx’s parents, grandparents, great grandparents, an uncle and great uncle all are Eagle Grove grads as well. In total, it’s over 21 family members that have worn the school cap and gown on their big day!

“I didn’t know about this until grandpa (Paul Thompson) told me,” said Flumerfelt. “He had curly hair, from what I heard, and was in band just like me.”

Paul said that an interesting thing about Milford was that he loved building experimental aircraft, and he was really into motorcycles. “That was his favorite mode of transportation,” said Paul. Maxx said that he feels blessed to have this ‘graduation connection’ happen.
