Matt Shannon is new Fareway Grocery Manager in EG

If you’ve been in the Eagle Grove Fareway store in the last week, chances are you might have noticed a new face. His name is Matt Shannon and he is the new Grocery Manager.

Although Shannon is new to the Eagle Grove store, he is not new to Fareway. In March, he will be with the company for 39 years.

He began his career in Mason City (where he is originally from), doing part-time courtesy and worked his way up to Clear Lake and Des Moines, until he was promoted to assistant manager at the next three locations - Eldora, Cedar Rapids, and Oelwein. He relocated to Webster City 16 years ago for a manager position. On Tuesday, Feb. 11, he began his new duties in Eagle Grove.

“Fareway is a good company to work for. They take care of their employees,” Shannon said about his longevity in the grocery store. Although he’s only been in Eagle Grove a short time, he’s already liking what he has seen and is settling in to his new role.

“Eagle Grove is great. There are a lot of nice people that I’ve already met,” he said.

Shannon noted that he doesn’t have any immediate changes in mind for the store. Instead, his intentions are to get to know the community - their wants and needs, and go from there.
