Mason leads Eagles in scoring, rebounding for season

The 2018-19 Eagle Grove boys varsity basketball team finished with a 1-21 overall record, and were 0-16 in the West Division. Forest City took first at 14-2, followed in the top three by Bishop Garrigan at 13-3 and both Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and Lake Mills tied at 12-4 for third. Chase Mason was named to the Honorable Mention list for the Top of Iowa-West Division.

The team scored 785 points for an average of 35.7 ppg. They made 268 of 853 field goals for 31.4 percent, 66 of 276 three-pointers for 23.9 percent and 183 of 295 free throws for 62.0 percent. Mason scored 267 points on 98 of 249 shots from the field for an average of 12.1 ppg. Jake Darland scored 149 points on 49 of 166 shots for an average of 7.1 ppg. Austin Purcell scored 112 points on 33 of 99 shots for an average of 5.1 ppg. Ben Olson scored 68 points on 25 of 89 shots for an average of 3.4 ppg. Thomas Matthes scored 56 points on 17 of 65 shots for an average of 3.3 ppg.

Zach Burns scored 53 points on 17 of 58 shots for an average of 2.5 ppg. Caden Butler scored 50 points on 19 of 66 shots for an average of 2.5 ppg. Desmond Weber scored nine points on three of 18 shots for an average of 0.6 ppg. Tyler Hansen scored six points on two of 11 shots for an average of 0.4 ppg. Adam Herrington scored five points on one of 14 shots for an average of 0.3 ppg.
