Mary Moffitt recognized for her years of service in Eagle Grove

Mary (Nicol) Moffitt was born and raised in rural Eagle Grove. She attended country school and later graduated from Eagle Grove High School. When she met and married her husband, Jim Moffitt, they chose to continue making their home in Eagle Grove. Somewhere along the way, she not only developed a love for her hometown, but a desire to give back to the community and the people who call it home.

“Mary is just the perfect example of a person who is a good citizen and a great human being,” said award presenter Linda Peterson on behalf of the Our Foundation for the Future organization. “”She is kind, considerate, caring, and has great faith. She is a pillar of her church, t he fi rst B aptist C hurch. Y ou can find her there many days.”

Among Mary’s many contributions to Eagle Grove was her part in helping start the very first child care center. It was located within the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

It proved to be a vision of the great need for a service like this as it eventually grew and moved to a new location within the middle school. Years later, a brand new facility was built. She was a Cub Scout and Brownie Den leader when her four children - Brian, Allen, Brenda, and Barb were young.
