Marlin Fischer

Marlin Fischer, Huntsville, AL (formerly of Thor, IA) was born on October 12, 1956, in Fort Dodge, IA to Merlin & Marlys (Sheldon) Fischer. Marlin was baptized and confirmed at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor, IA.

He attended Thor and Eagle Grove Schools, graduating with the Class of 1975. Marlin then attended college at ICCC in Fort Dodge, IA, where he even took a few classes taught by his Dad and graduated with the class of 1977 with an Associate of Arts degree. He then went onto Iowa State University in Ames, IA, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and excelled in the Tae Kwon Do sport, earning a black belt. He graduated from ISU in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.

Marlin was employed at various engineering jobs in Kenosha, WI, Seattle, WA and Portland, OR. But after a few years of getting laid off in the early 80s due to the economy, he decided to pursue his dream of modeling and acting. He appeared in various magazines like GQ, Esquire, Glamour and various shows like Days of our Lives, Capitol and Dynasty.

After 10 years in the acting industry, Marlin left and pursued selling a product online called Krystal Air that was designed in New Zealand and helpful in ridding various odors from fabrics, porous materials and even larger scale operations.

In recent years, Marlin studied more computer technologies, including cyber security operations. The US Army offered him a position as a Cyber Security Analyst in Kuwait. He followed that up by a career in the Department of Defense & Redstone Arsenal also as a Cyber Security Analyst.

Marlin passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2022, at his home in Huntsville, AL. He considered everyone a friend and will be missed by those who knew him!

Marlin is survived by his sister Marla (Wally) Lorenzen, close friend Wendy Hill, special cousin Karen (Craig) Kinsey and many other cousins & close friends.

Visitation for Marlin will be held at Ullensvang Lutheran Church Parish Hall in Thor, IA on Saturday, August 6 from 1-3 p.m. with graveside services to follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery near Badger, IA.

Berryhill Funeral Home of Huntsville, AL & Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove, IA have assisted with arrangements.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
