Making the old new again

For the past several years, the City of Eagle Grove and the Community Development Corporation (CDC) have joined forces to either fix up or remove dilapidated and abandoned houses in the community.

“The goal is to save salvageable properties rather than tearing them down,” said Mayor Sandy McGrath. The most recent success story of this program sits along the main elementary access road.

The house located at 620 NW 4th St. has sat abandoned for several years. On March 1, 2017, the City acquired the three bedroom house and twoand- a-half car garage property. It was then turned over to the CDC for rehabbing. The worn and dated wood exterior was replaced with siding, new front steps were put in, as were new exterior doors, and a new roof. Inside, they fixed the water pipes, replaced the flooring and carpeting, and painted the walls. There is also central air.
