Making the holidays merry and crafty

Eagle Grove native, Shelby (Beck) Pedersen got the crafting bug when she was only nine years old. At that young age, she was already a regular at her mother, Shirley’s, Hobby Club meetings where they did crafts. At nine years old is also when Pedersen learned how to sew from her mother. This youngster was a natural at the newly learned hobby and it wasn’t long before her mom and dad bought her a sewing machine of her very own.

“I still have it, and it still works,” Pedersen said a little bit surprised.

She has sewn many great creations on that machine over the years, but perhaps her favorite is a winter coat. She admitted it was a challenge, but it was worth the effort.

“I earned a trip to the State Fair with it,” said Pedersen of the fond memory.

Another hobby Pedersen was a natural at she didn’t start until 24 years ago. Painting on sweatshirts became her new passion and was her local claim to fame. Everyone knew, and loved, Shelby’s unique, fun, festive sweatshirts.
