...participate in active shooter response training

 

Like anything you do, the more you practice, the easier it becomes. But when adrenaline and high anxiety situations are added to a scenario, training becomes even more crucial. In the case of law enforcement, it can mean the difference between life and death, not only for themselves, but the people around them as well.

After the school massacre in Columbine, Colorado in 1999, it became painfully obvious that more training was needed for officers to handle active shooter responses.

In 2002, the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center at Texas State University was created in partnership between Texas State University, the San Marcos Police Department, and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office to address this need. In 2013, they also partnered with the FBI. It has now become the national standard in active shooter response training
