Learning about local government

Government and politics can be confusing, especially to a 17-year-old who is preparing to vote in the very near future, and perhaps even more so to an 18-year-old who had their very first opportunity to cast their ballet in the Eagle Grove City election that was just held this past Tuesday.

To help give these youngsters a better glimpse into the life of a government official, Richard Thacker invited Mayor Sandy McGrath to speak to his Government students at Eagle Grove High School.

She started off by explaining to the students that according to Code, the Mayor is considered the Chief Operating Officer.

“It’s not a dictator,” she told them. “Rather, the goal is to have a good team that works together and does their job well.”
