Larry Meyer retires - Knutzon’s closing after 46 years as Eagle Grove store front

There’s no doubt the new “normal” of 2017 is going to take some getting used to for Larry and Terri Jo Meyer. For the last 37 years and 35.5 years, respectively, this couple has been going into work at Knutzon’s Inc. on Broadway in Eagle Grove.

It all started long before the couple actually owned the store. Larry, who had a degree in civil engineering and had worked in Decorah for eight years, decided he wanted a career change.

“That’s not what I wanted to do,” he said.

So in November 1979, he moved to Eagle Grove and began working as a plumber for his then in-laws, Russ and Jo Knutzon at Knutzon’s Inc.

“I learned how to plumb from Russ...and on the job experience,” said Larry. “Russ was wonderful to work with...he never yelled or complained. He was an all-around good guy and a good teacher.”
