Lady Eagles take Bison to overtime, Great effort leads to heartbreak

For quite awhile in last Friday’s home game with North Iowa, it looked very much like the Eagle Grove varsity girls would finally get a much-needed win under their belt. While the effort was there, in the end they just couldn’t overcome turnovers and lost opportunities in a 43- 40 overtime loss to the Bison.

Taking an 11-8 lead into the second period, Natalie Vrba tries for a rebound on her missed free throw. She puts it up only to be fouled.

She stepped to the line, but couldn’t hit her throws keeping the score at 11-10 in their favor. With the clock showing four minutes until halftime, the purple and gold fought to stay ahead. Ariane Lyman’s free throw kept it at 13-13, and a shot from the corner by Hannah Sampson made it 15- 13. Outscoring the Bison ten points to five over the quarter, the Eagles entered the locker room trailing by just two at 18-16.
